Sica

The main activities of SICA – Sociedade Industrial e Comercial de Azeites, Lda are centered on the production and distribution of bulk bottled olive oil, and it is also engaged in the refining of olive oil. Its refinery is still located at its old premises and the company is planning to move it to its new, modern premises sited at the Arcos Industrial Park.

Its sales of olive oil are in the region of one thousand tons per annum, of which approximately 80% consists of bottled olive oil.

SICA sells the TRIUNFO brand since its inception in 1942, being a registered trademark in Portugal (1971) and in some foreign countries, and the brand is well known in the Portuguese and Brazilian markets. The TRIUNFO brand is usually associated with top-quality Virgin Olive Oil.

Production

In 1999, SICA built a new olive milling plant in the Arcos Industrial Zone comprising a new automatic cleaning, washing, and weighing system, and it increased its storage capacity to 150 tons of olive processed by a 2-phase continuous system capable of storing 50 tons of olive oil. The premises comprise a waste water retention basin as well.

The mill is conformant to all the applicable European Union and Portuguese regulations. Its peak production capacity reaches 5,000 tons per campaign and can easily be doubled. Production requires a maximum of two employees per shift.

The olives are sourced from the Upper Alentejo region of Portugal, and, in addition, SICA maintains harvesting depots in the Algarve and Lower Alentejo Regions, plus another depot in the Elvas zone.

The olive oil extracted at our mill is Extra Virgin Olive Oil of high quality and flavor.

Plant

The new plant built in the Arcos Industrial Zone during 1999 and 2000 is equipped with the following features:

A mill featuring an automatic cleaning line and a 2-phase processing system;

A warehouse fitted with stainless steel vats with a capacity for storing approximately 600 tons of olive oil and comprising a weighing facility;

Bottling capacity: in excess of 3,000 tones per annum;

A bottle and finished products warehousing facility;

A quality control laboratory fitted with modern equipment;

A staff canteen and sanitary facilities;

A number of offices, reception, and a meeting room;

Spare space for expansion and installation of its refinery, in future.

The total investment in the new plant amounted to approximately €1,700,000 incurred during 1999 and 2000, and subsequent years.
